Imagine a cake shop where not only is everything pink, but everything actually tastes pink too (and delicious). Got it? Then you're thinking of Peggy Porschen Cakes. If you've ever wandered around Belgravia you may have seen it looming in the distance, the bright pink facade is pretty hard to miss. I for one have been desperate for an excuse to take the short walk from Victoria Station (about 5 minutes to be precise) to Peggy Porschen since discovering its frilliness on Instagram, and I finally did last Sunday. It was a glorious way to spend an hour: basking in the sun on the street terrace, eating cake - with a cake fork, the small things - and sipping tea.
Peggy Porschen doesn't pretend to be anything other than it is: kitsch, cute, and pink. My kind of place. It also only serves cake. Also my kind of place. But it has a wide range of baked goods on offer, from Strawberry & Champagne cupcakes to classic Victoria Sponge, Orange & Walnut Cake, Cookies & Cream... You get the idea. I had a slice of the Lemon, Raspberry & Rose Cake which was simply divine, and if the single slice I had is anything to go by then Peggy Porschen knows what's what in the baking world. Delicious.
The bakery - or should I say, the parlour - was itself quite small, but when the sun is shining this just gives you even more of an excuse to sit outside and watch the hoi polloi of Belgravia go by. We were lucky to miss the midday rush, however, because there was a queue out the door as soon as we sat down!
If you have a persistent a sweet tooth, or you just find that it's one of those days and you want cake for lunch, then Peggy Porschen Cakes is well-equipped to satisfy any sugary craving you have.
PS. You can also improve your own baking and decorating skills at the Peggy Porschen Academy.
