England was still waiting for summer to arrive until about two weeks ago, so my work wardrobe over the last few months has been largely un-summery. One day it's a leather jacket, the next it's a sleeveless shirt and sandals. But through it all there have been a few staple pieces that I have been able to restyle into outfits to suit the weather's daily temper tantrums! Here are a few.
Wide leg trousers // Probably one of the most divisive trends this year is the wide leg trouser. Last summer saw the return of the palazzo pants, and now their cropped counterparts have dominated 2016. Given that I struggle to find trousers that don't look too short on me anyway, I didn't think this style would suit me, but I love love love them. This pair from Zara is incredibly comfortable, and just perfect for lazy dressing days at work.
The smart jacket // This ol' thing dates back to my first ever internship two years ago, but when I found it hidden in my wardrobe a few weeks ago I swear I felt that little bit of excitement that you get when you buy something new - without having to spend any money! Jackets are a struggle for summer, but this striped number from Topshop is the perfect weight and style for smart dressing, giving me a light layer in the cooler mornings and air-con offices, but also immediately smartening up skinny jeans and a t-shirt.
The white shirt // Everyone says it, and there's a reason for that: a white shirt is a wardrobe staple. Not just a working wardrobe either! I probably wear this shirt just as much outside of work as I do in the office. It is quite literally a plain white shirt from Topshop, no bells or frills, but when you can effortlessly style something with a pleated midi skirt, leather jacket or floral mini then it's definitely a keeper!
