Two years ago I interned on a jewellery website that created mesmerising editorials featuring the most inspirational yellow gold jewellery pieces; since then, I've been a golden girl through and through. But, alas, gold is expensive. Far more expensive than the sterling silver jewellery pieces that I already owned, but still I was convinced. Gold costume jewellery can also often look much 'tackier' and 'cheaper' than silver, so you really do have to fork out for the slightly dearer gold plated pieces to avoid the Mr T / Vicky Pollard look.
A few months ago whilst wandering through Greenwich Market I stumbled upon the most beautiful jewellery stall, Pick A Twig. Gold, silver, and rose gold twig-like earrings that climb the ear, mismatched with minimalist studs set against the most scandi-cool wooden displays. Needless to say I was hooked. Last weekend I found myself drawn towards the golden glow of the earrings again, and after telling myself I would come back next weekend, 10 minutes later I was handing over £35 for these very earrings. Incredibly simplistic, they're perfect for everyday whilst still being a statement accessory. The twig earring hooks through and twists to follow the curve of the ear (available in both left and right sides) - which is way more comfortable than it might look - and I picked a semi-circle stud to complete the asymmetric pair.
Gold can be intimidating and difficult to pull off, especially if the majority of the jewellery you already wear is silver, but minimalist earrings like these are just enough to mix and match with other metals, and to add a little suttin' suttin' to your everyday jewellery look. And I hear they also do rings...
